Having talent and refined skills as a commercial or fashion photographer is only half the equation; knowing how to properly price your services and market yourself is just as crucial to getting paid what you are worth. Of them, the one I most commonly see a lot of photographers make is not negotiating proper usage fees for their images (or even not charging them at all). The prospect of usage fees can seem foreign or completely strange if you are newer to the commercial world, but they are very standard, and it is important to get what you deserve, particularly if your client will be using your images for large-scale applications and getting a lot of mileage out of them.
