Instagram Now Better Explains Why Posts Get Recommended or Not

Instagram Account Status

Instagram is expanding its Account Status page to better help users with professional accounts understand if and why their content is eligible to be recommended to non-followers, and what it can do to change that if it is not.

In a blog post, Instagram says that having its algorithm recommend content is one of the best ways to reach new followers and grow an audience, but understanding how to get content recommended has been amorphous and difficult to parse.

“That’s why it’s important to us that creators understand our guidelines and are able to know if something they’ve posted or have in their profile may be impacting their reach to non-followers,” Instagram says.

“It’s also why we’re introducing the ability to disagree with our decision so our review team can take another look as quickly as possible and we can continue to improve our detection technology.”

To that end, Instagram is rolling out an update that adds three new features: the ability to check if an account’s content can be recommended, visibility to understanding what issues exist if not, and recommended ways to fix those problems.

The changes allow a user to see if they are eligible to be recommended to non-followers in places like Explore, Reels, and Feed Recommendations to start with, and if an account’s content is deemed ineligible, the app will show a sample of content that it has determined may go against its Recommendation Guidelines or any content that has been removed due to violating the app’s Community Guidelines. FInally, the app will provide users who aren’t being recommended the ability to edit or delete specific posts that are deemed to have gone against the Recommendation Guidelines and also request for Instagram’s review team to take another look if a user thinks the company has made a mistake.

“With these updates, we want to help you understand issues with your account and better explain how our systems and rules work,” the Meta-owned app says. “We’re continuing to improve Account Status to cover more areas (like Search and Suggested Accounts), and add more ways for you to understand and fix issues that may affect how you reach non-followers.”

These updates are in addition to a post from October where Instagram said it was committed to sharing more information about how its algorithms and Search work.
