“Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.” – Robert Frank

If you find yourself alternating between hope and despair when processing your black-and-white photos, you should probably watch this tutorial from Aaron Nace of PHLEARN. In it, Nace runs through a processing workflow designed to quickly shepherd a color image through Lightroom and return a dramatic black-and-white final output.

As you’d expect, processing black-and-white photos in Lightroom is a different animal than processing color images. For one, you can push-and-pull the sliders more aggressively than you would with a color image. As Nace says, when working in black-and-white you shouldn’t be afraid to crank the sliders. Check out the video for all of his tips.
